CHENNAI, JAN 11: An Indian Air Force (IAF) Avro aircraft carrying four Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials and four crew members crashed today in Attur village, two km from Arakkonam, killing all eight on board.

A UNI correspondent saw the debris and the bodies strewn in the half-kilometre stretch on the Attur Harijan Colony burial ground where the plane came down.

The entire area was cordoned off by Naval personnel who were tight-lipped about the identity of DRDO scientists and crew members.

A Hyderabad report quoting DRDO sources said the aircraft was identified to be from the Bangalore-based Centre for Airbore System (CABS). CABS sources from Bangalore indicated to UNI over telephone that there could be more than four DRDO officials on board the ill-fated plane, the report added.

Top Air Force and Naval investigating officials would be landing here tomorrow to commence their probe into the crash.
