NEW DELHI, March 9: Education has not benefitted from cutbacks in defence spending which followed the end of the Cold War in a majority of countries across the world, according to a UNESCO report.Teaching and learning conditions and the material situation of schools have failed to benefit from policies towards public expenditure on education, the just-published fourth edition of the biennial world education report says.It says teachers’ salaries and status have also not improved much. In developing countries where population growth remains high and educational opportunities are expanding, many teachers have received little schooling and no training.
