Voicing ‘‘deep concern over increasing signs of intolerance and insensitivity’’ to people’s right to information, the Editors’ Guild of India today appealed to the Karnataka High Court to review its reported decision putting curbs on the media to report on ‘‘activities’’ of some judges.Observing that it held the judiciary in the ‘‘highest esteem’’, Guild President Hari Jaisingh said the judiciary and the media were two major pillars of democracy and they had to think and work in concert for upholding the citizens’ interests.Calling the reported move by the high court under the ‘‘antiquated’’ contempt of courts act as ‘‘unfortunate and uncalled for,’’ Jaisingh appealed to the court to review its decision and allow the media to function freely and fearlessly.‘‘On this depends not only the freedom of the Press but also the citizens’ right to know,’’ he said, appealing to the Supreme court to intervene in the matter without delay.‘‘It is gratifying that the Chief Justice of India is already seized of the matter,’’ he said, according to a Guild press release.
