The Election Commission today reviewed the poll arrangements in Gujarat for the forthcoming Assembly Elections, including security arrangements in sensitive areas and relief camps.The Commission is learnt to have communicated a set of tentative dates to the state for the two-phase elections to be held in December. Sources say the dates would be finalised only after the state assures full preparedness as per these dates.In order to check the details of the arrangements, the Gujarat chief electoral officer Gurcharan Singh and joint chief electoral officer J.P. Jadeja were summoned by the EC today. They met the Chief Election Commissioner J.M. Lyngdoh and the two election commissioners.The EC also held a meeting with the Union Home Secretary N. Gopalaswamy on the deployment of paramilitary forces during polling in sensitive areas of the state. With the voters lists finalised, the Commission is reviewing various electoral, police and administrative measures that need to be taken by the state. It is expected that an EC team may visit the state soon.
