CALCUTTA, OCT 3: East Bengal made their exit from the Asian Club Cup football championships in the first round itself, drawing their home match goalless against China’s Dalian Club at the Kanchenjungha Stadium in Siliguri. Having lost the away game 0-6, Calcutta’s East Bengal failed to create an impression in the coveted meet which has Asia’s top club sides compete in the home-and-away format.

East Bengal received a number chances but could not capitalise on any of them. With their three Ghanians creating quite a few inroads, the East Bengal forwards were found wanting, allowing all the openings go waste. In fact, the home side failed to utilise nine flag-kicks that came theirway.

With Bhaichung Bhutia well marked, Raman Vijayan missed opportunities galore. Dalian, without a few of their regular players, managed to hold the Calcutta giants although East Bengal were demoralised after the thrashing they received at Dalian.
