NEW DELHI, May 25: The summer is half-way through and the Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB) is still groping in the dark. The mercury is rising, tempers are frayed, complaint calls flood the office and the DVB like a responsible civic agency has announced another set of measures, to `mitigate the suffering of the residents’.

To deal with the frequent complaints against the employees at the complaint centres, of which the Chief Minister has also had first-hand experience, the DVB has decided to recruit 150 graduates for a period of six months to man the complaint centres. Moreover, apart from the no current complaint book, an additional complaint book will be kept at the centres in which residents can record their grievances against employees.

The pages of the book will be numbered so that no one tears them. The book will be reviewed regularly and suitable action will be taken against the errant officials. An additional telephone will also be installed at all the complaint centres by Wednesday. The DVB has also appointed another additional Superintending Engineer for east Delhi to and the Superintending Engineer for south Delhi has been transferred for failing to deal with the situation. The centralised complaint centre will have 36 lines instead of the existing 18 and residents can dial in their complaints at 1911. The number of fault locating vans has been increased to two in each circle and the breakdown vans from two to three.
