Poliec have offered a reward of Rs 50,000 for the arrest and successful conviction of the person responsible for the brutal murder of an Indian-origin schoolgirl last week.

Police spokesperson superintendent Bala Naidoo said that a special task team had been set up to investigate the murder.

‘‘We are all perturbed over the murder of the girl and other murders in Durban and other areas of Kwazulu-Natal,’’ he said. ‘‘We want to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible,’’ he added.

The mutilated body of 14-year-old Lovisha Persad was found with more than 50 stab wounds in a park in the suburb of reservoir hills of the city on the morning of Saturday last.

Lovisha had gone missing Friday evening when she was sent by her parents on an errand to a local store. She was sexually molested.

The schoolgirl was the latest victim in a spate of murders that shocked members of the local Indian community here.
