PUNE, JULY 11: The investigation into the Rs 16.5 lakh duping case of a city businessman involving three impostors has revealed that the trio had attempted same trick on another businessman.Dhananjay Narayan Thite, a businessman dealing in photocopy machines, was duped at a city hotel on Friday. In a well-planned move, the accused replaced Thite's bag containing Rs 16.5 cash with an identical bag containing stacks of blank papers bound and cut to size of currency note. They had called Thite at the hotel on the pretext of making payment to the deal of delivering photocopy machines to the latter.In a similar fashion, the trio had also called another businessman at the hotel on Thursday, the police said. One of the accused contacted a customs items shop owner on Market Yard early this month. Introducing himself as Amit Mukherjee he proposed to offer him 40 per cent discount on sale of mobile telephone set.Like in case of Thite, he requested the shop owner to make payments for the deal in bundles of Rs 500 at the same hotel. However, since the trader insisted on making payments through demand draft, the deal was cancelled, the police said. The trader approached the police today after he read about Thite's duping case in the newspapers. The description of impostor given by the trader matches with that given by Thite, the police said.
