Dukhtaran-e-Milaat chief Asiya Andrabi and six of her activists were arrested on Thursday from a restaurant on charges of assaulting a woman.

The self-styled moral police, was on a ‘‘raid’’ to enforce their ’’code of conduct’’ for Kashmiri women.

‘‘This is nothing but hooliganism. They were caught assaulting a married woman, who was with her husband at the restaurant,’’ Senior Superintendent of Police Muneer Khan told The Indian Express.

‘‘The activists were beating up the lady with a curtain rod after forcing their way into the restaurant. We will not allow anybody to create a law and order problem,” the SSP added.

The police has charged them under different cases that range from outraging the modesty of a woman, attempted murder and hooliganism.
