NEW DELHI, May 1: Examination fever claimed another victim yesterday when a Delhi University undergraduate student hanged himself in the Mukherjee Nagar area of north-west Delhi. According to the police, the student, who had come from Bihar to study here, and was too scared to take the exam.

The student, 22-year-old Vijay Krishnan, was a BA (Hons) student in his final year. According to the police, he was living with a group of seven other students who were also from the same state in Mukherjee Nagar house.

The area is close to the main university campus and a large number of students live there.

Police say that he shared one of the rooms in the flat with another student named Rajesh. At around 2 p.m. yesterday, Vijay’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in their room with a bedsheet. Police say that Vijay had committed suicide a few hours earlier. Rajesh was reportedly not present in the room at the time.

Rajesh told the police that Vijay was very nervous about the forthcoming examinations and used to get very tense during exam time. He also told the police that Vijay had to take an exam the next day (May 1) and was therefore very worried about his prospects. He had reportedly already taken one exam.

Since Vijay has no relatives in Delhi, his body has been kept in a mortuary and the news of his death has been communicated to the family in Bihar. The Mukherjee Nagar police are investigating the case.
