CHANDIGARH, April 16: The city may have a drug addiction treatment centre soon. Minutes after UT IGP Kiran Bedi said that the city urgently needed a drug abuse treatment centre, CII offered "total support and commitment" to the establishment of such a centre. This was announced, here today, by CII Chandigarh Council chairman I. S. Paul at the CII annual session.

A basement and three halls of a Sector 30 building of Lions Club of Chandigarh has been offered. The building is lying vacant which could house a drug abuse treatment centre, it was added.

Bedi said the burglaries in the city were directly linked with the drug-addicts. "They will be identified and arrested to be treated in prison," said Bedi at the session attended by about 70 industry representatives.

Responding to a suggestion, Bedi agreed that traffic could be regulated if the offices of two states and the UT could start their day with a gap of a few minutes. Bedi suggested several areas where the industry could have a partnership with the police. These included computer training for the children of policemen, sanitation which could begin in police colony itself, senior citizen support group of CII and citizen patrol. The CII offered to impart computer training to police children. Also, one of the industrialists will sponsor reflectors for the cycles, Paul said.
