“The agitation is to highlight mainly the plight of the people who are reeling under spiralling prices,” she said, charging the Government with “failure” on all fronts, including law and order, water and electricity supply, sanitation and transport.

“The four and half years’ lackadaisical tenure of the BJP Government has been a nightmare, a saga of wrong decisions and policies,” she said, alleging that the government, instead of addressing the problems, is trying to divert their attention by announcing full-statehood to Delhi.

“Though in principle we are in favour of full-statehood, but what people want at present is solutions to their present problems like water, electricity,” Dikshit said.

In a related incident, a large number of women activists today demonstrated at Parliament premises demanding immediate passage of the Bill seeking to provide reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and the state legislative assemblies.

They protested against the government’s delay in introducing the Bill. All India Mahila Congress president Ambika Soni, her predecessor Girija Vyas and other Congress leaders participated in the demonstration.
