PANCHKULA, Aug 18: A case has been registered against four persons for allegedly demanding dowry and harassing a woman. The woman, a resident of Manimajra, has charged her father-in-law along with three others for continuously harassing her for dowry.

Jasbir Kaur, lodged a complaint and in the First Information Report named her father-in-law Makhan Singh along with Surinder Kaur, Parmajit and Karamjit for mental torture and ill-treatment, ever since her marriage in 1994. Jasbir Kaur who was married to Onkar Singh alleged that although a hefty sum of nearly Rs 6 lakh was paid as dowry by her parents in cash and kind, still her in-laws continued to harass her and demanded more dowry. Besides, jewellery and cash, household articles were demanded from her from time to time.

The complainant alleged that the attitude of the in-laws worsened when she gave birth to a female child and ultimately she was forced out of the house two years ago, when her husband was away. Since then she has been living at her parents place. A case has been registered under Sections 408-A, 406 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code.
