Afraid of losing their jobs in the forthcoming downsizing of the Uttaranchal government, a large number of ministers have turned to God.

At least four Uttaranchal ministers have performed special havans and anusthans to appease the Gods in a bid to save their chairs. Since July 4, the deadline for downsizing, is approaching fast, ministers are trying their utmost to retain their Cabinet status. Uttaranchal has 17 ministers in the government headed by CM N.D. Tiwari. In the proposed downsizing, five ministers have to be dropped to conform to the constitutional requirement.

Most ministers were in Delhi to meet senior party leaders to lobby for them. While others are busy holding special prayers and havans at Rishikesh and Hardwar.
