The Talkatora Indoor Stadium and the Shivaji Stadium were last renovated for the 1982 Games. Both were built in 1971 and are under the control of the New Delhi Municipal Council NDMC. Not much maintenance seems to have gone on since, with serious infrastructural damage evident in both.

Conditions have deteriorated over the years, especially at the Shivaji Stadium, which hosts many tournaments in a calendar year and is also booked by many teams and clubs for practice. The boundary walls of the stadium are in a poor state and the basic facilities present are far from what meets international standards.

The other major concern common to both the places is a shortage of parking space. Overflowing parking lots create a menace during events.

This is set to change. Not only will the interiors and exteriors of both stadiums be totally redesigned at a cost of over Rs 35 crore, a double-level parking for 500 vehicles will reduce snarls.
