One of the big reasons why the Final Frontier has remained a final frontier for the Australians is their ineptness against quality spin. In a bid to master the art of playing spin, the Aussies sought the guidance of former India left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi today, and Doshi sportingly spent time till after dusk chatting with the Aussie spin option. The 56-year-old bespectacled Doshi arrived in Mumbai on Thursday (from London, where he’s been staying for some years now) and reached the Brabourne Stadium in the afternoon. Even as it grew dark and rain drops fell, Doshi held Shane Warne, Cameron White, Nathan Hauritz and even Brett Lee quite captivated. Also listening attentively were Michael Clarke, Justin Langer and coach John Buchanan. Doshi bowled a few deliveries and could be seen holding his left arm high in a bowling action. He moved his wrists to suggest how to read a delivery off a bowler’s hand and also told the bowlers about the effectiveness of the side-on approach. Speaking to The Indian Express later, Doshi chose to play down the coaching. ‘‘I was just sharing my experiences with the young bowlers,’’ he said modestly. Coaxed further, he added, ‘‘The Aussies called me to have a small session and Shane Warne and I were sharing a few things with the others.’’
