The self-styled ‘‘Doosri Radha’’, Inspector-General of Police (Rules and Manuals) D K Panda, got a taste of some real-time policing today when his wife, Beena Panda, allegedly bent all rules and assaulted him.

Panda was trying to decamp from his home with all the household goods in a tractor when an angry Beena pulled him off the tractor, right onto the floor. When he managed to pull free, his nose-ring and earrings had been wrenched away, leaving him bleeding. The senior police officer reportedly suffered bruises on his hands and legs after the scuffle with his wife.

However, Beena denied that she had beaten him up, claiming that Panda fell down while trying to escape from the house.

When a couple of policemen arrived, Pande told them: ‘‘Hum haath jodte hain, hume jaane do, yahaan hume achcha nahi lagta (I plead before you, please let me go; I don’t like it here).’’

It was around 2 pm when sounds of some movement disturbed Beena’s afternoon siesta. She found her husband loading the household goods. They had a heated exchange of words, which later became a scuffle.

‘‘I objected to his running away with all the goods and asked the neighbours to call the police. How can he go with everything? I know this is his gameplan to vacate the official home, which I will eventually have to do,’’ she said.

Her main objection was to Panda taking away the refrigerator, washing machine and the sofa. She said he could not leave without paying her maintenance of Rs 7,000 a month — the backlog now totals Rs 1.5 lakhs — ‘‘which the Court had ordered’’. But Panda denied any such court order.

Eventually, the police ensured that the three household goods were left behind as Panda trundled off in the tractor. He, however, took the official files.

Panda said he was leaving his home to live a peaceful life where nobody would disturb him during his Bhakti song and dance.

‘‘I face restrictions in dancing; I am not comfortable,’’ he rued.
