Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today called for complete reorientation in the pattern of Central financing, urging the Planning Commission not to micro manage and take upon itself the task of determining the plan size of every single state.

Addressing the first regional consultation meeting organised by Planning Commission here, Azad emphasised the need for moving away from output to employment during plan formation and financing, adding that all the ten 5-year plans have so far focused on aggregate growth of output. While the caucus on output is important, there have been changes in the structure of economy and its growth, which have resulted in serious issues of employment generation, he added.

All the chief ministers from northern states were present at the regional consultation which was chaired by Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia. Azad was accompanied by his Economic Advisor Dr. Hasib Draboo, Chief Secretary C.Phungsog, Principal Secretary (Coordination) Ajit Kumar, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Anil Goswami, Commissioner-Secretary (Finance) B.B. Byas and other senior officers of the state.
