United Liberation Front of Assom (ULFA) chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa today asked the media not to carry news items involving government propaganda against the outfit’s demand for sovereignty.
‘‘The ULFA has noted that a section of people have been always trying to project the Indo-Assam conflict as militancy and violence. This is definitely part of a strategy of our enemies. We appeal to the media and all concerned not to publish or propagate whatever the occupational forces are saying to defame our armed struggle for sovereignty,’’ said Rajkhowa, in a statement e-mailed to newspaper offices here.
Rajkhowa also referred to a public meeting organised by the Assam government on Monday, where intellectuals, NGO activists and others appealed to the ULFA to shun violence. ‘‘The government has compelled these people to approve whatever the occupational forces have thought right,’’ Rajkhowa said.
