NASHIK, June 20: Health Minister Daulatrao Aher failed to take action against schools demanding donations during admissions, despite there being a state government ban on the same.
Talking to mediapersons, Aher said on Thursday that some parents, who had been asked to shell out donations by Rachana Vidyalaya and some other convent schools in Nashik, had approached him for help. He said that he had issued letters to the respective schools, asking them to admit the students without insisting on donations. When asked why he did not take any action against the schools, he replied that education did not come under his department.
He was lost for words when it was pointed out that as a cabinet minister, he could have taken action against the erring schools. Aher, who is contesting for a seat in the board of directors of the Maratha Vidhya Prasarak Samaj, had indicated earlier that he was not averse to educational institutions accepting donations.
