A top nephrologist working with a prestigious medical institute in Pakistan has put in his papers in protest against the imposition of Emergency.Sameeh J Khan, a Pakistani-origin US national who heads the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences’ nephrology department, has cited unlawful detentions, human rights violations and media censorship in his resignation letter dated November 4, the Dawn reported on Thursday.According to Khan, “For the last six to seven months there have been events that rattled this beautiful country of ours and the actions of rulers have caused chaos and disaster and as a public servant I cannot support the actions of the government that I serve. “Conscience would dictate that I either become a hypocrite and continue to be like a wounded sparrow in a cage or exit out to bury this conflict. I have chosen the latter option,” he said in his resignation letter.Khan said he is particularly upset over the events after March 9.“The bombshell of November 3 in the form of Emergency or mini-martial law, suspending fundamental rights and desecrating the sanctity of superior judiciary, is tantamount to the straw that breaks the camel’s back,” he wrote.
