Chennai, May 29: The DMK and AIADMK must devise an election formula to SHARE the Lok Sabha seats between themselves rather than giving room for national parties to win more seats in the state at the expense of the two Dravidian parties, Dravidar Kazhagam general secretary K Veeramani said in Chennai on Friday.

Speaking to mediapersons, Veeramani said he has been advocating the need for both the Dravidian parties to work on a seat-sharing arrangement as far as Lok Sabha election is concerned though they can fight Assembly elections on different platforms.

Ridiculing a reported statement by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi that the DMK did not form an alliance with the BJP but the party is only a part of the newly formed National Democratic Alliance in which the BJP is a constituent, Veeramani said people will not believe this lame excuse by the Chief Minister and said the DMK has moved away from the Dravidian ideology propagated by late E V Ramaswamy and C N Annadurai by joining hands with the“anti-secular BJP”.

Criticising the DMK decision to support the BJP Government during the confidence motion, he said the DMK had betrayed the constituents of the erstwhile United Front which sacrificed power at the Centre to stand by the DMK in the wake of the Jain Commission findings.

Terming the BJP as a political version of the RSS, Veeramani quoted a report on the Internet that RSS leader Rajendra Singh reportedly asked Prime Minister Vajpayee to seek his clearance for the list of BJP candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha election as Rajendra Singh felt that there were not many RSS supporters in the list of BJP MPs in the dissolved Lok Sabha. When asked about BJP’s reported intention to enact a Constitutional amendment to prevent persons of foreign origin from holding high offices in the country, Veeramani said BJP aimed at one person and it was not connected with national interests. He said the BJP Government is wooing investments from multinationals and contemplating to offer dual citizenship toNRIs but seeks to prevent persons of foreign origin from adorning a high office while they possess valid Indian citizenship.

He described Sharad Pawar’s opposition to Sonia Gandhi becoming Prime Minister as sheer political opportunism. He wondered why Pawar had changed his stand all of a sudden as he was instrumental in making Sonia Gandhi the Congress Parliamentary leader though she was not a member of either House.
