A day after Shaari died in hospital, DIG R. Sreelekha, who is heading the probe into the Kiliroor sex abuse, today hinted at the possibility of more arrests.

Denying reports that the investigations in the case have been wound up, the DIG said the probe is progressing and more arrests could happen. ‘‘The case is not being limited to the arrest of eight accused so far,’’ she said.

Addressing a news conference at the Medical College here along with Deputy SP Abraham Mathew, the DIG said the post-mortem report would be crucial evidence in the case. The DIG said the investigating team was set to add more sections to the crime committed by the accused, who are in custody. The DIG denied allegations the statement of the deceased was recorded while she was lying unconscious. ‘‘The girl had a sound state of mind while the magistrate and later myself, took the dying declaration,’’ she said. She also denied that there was political interference. ‘‘We conducted the investigations honestly.’’
