Five men, included a former England rugby captain and her bodyguard, have been dramatically named as Diana's ‘lovers’ at the inquest on the princess. The list included former England rugby captain Will Carling and her police bodyguard, Barry Mannakee. Also named were ex-cavalry officer James Hewitt, James Gilbey, who famously called her Squidgy in a phone conversation and art dealer Oliver Hoare.Only Hewitt has ever openly admitted having an affair with the princess. The list was read at the inquest on the princess as Michael Gibbins, her former private secretary, was questioned about Royal ‘disapproval’ of her private life. The names were revealed by Michael Mansfield QC, representing Mohamed Al Fayed, whose son Dodi also died in the 1997 Paris car crash which killed the princess, the Daily Mail reported on Thursday.Of the five, Hewitt, who wooed the princess from 1986 to 1990, later cashed in by publishing intimate details.Carling, who fell for Diana after meeting her in a gym in 1995, always insisted they were close friends rather than lovers, the report said.Gilbey, a Lotus car PR executive, whose ‘Squidgygate’ conversation was mysteriously taped and later made public, never admitted to an affair. Nor did Hoare, who is believed to have had a four-year relationship with the princess from 1990.Police bodyguard Mannakee died in a motorcycle accident in 1987, a year after their affair ended and a decade before it was made public.Gibbins said he had warned Diana about taking Princes William and Harry on holiday with the Al Fayed family earlier in 1997, before her relationship began with his film producer son Dodi, who was regarded by some as a playboy.
