Dharam Singh, Nichani, actor Ambareesh bite the dust

Eight time winner Dharam Singh missed creating a record of winning nine times successively from the same constituency (Jewargi) when he was beaten by Doddappa Gowda Patil of the BJP.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh, Congress debutante Mamatha Nichani, Congress heavyweight R V Deshpande, actors Shashikumar and Ambareesh, MP and JDS state unit president Merajudding Patel were among those who bit the dust in the Assembly elections.

Eight time winner Dharam Singh missed creating a record of winning nine times successively from the same constituency (Jewargi) when he was beaten by Doddappa Gowda Patil of the BJP.

In Ramanagaram, Mamatha Nichani, daughter of former Chief Minister Ramkrishna Hegde, a political novice pitted by the Congress to take on JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy, keeping with astrological predictions that a woman would rout the Gowda clan, lost at the hustings.

Congress heavyweight R V Deshpande lost to Sunil Hegde of BJP by 5,425 votes in Haliyal, which he represented six terms.

In Sringapattana cine actor Ambareesh and sitting Congress MP was humbled by JDS candidate Ramesh Bandisiddegowda.

Another star Shashikumar was defeated in Challakere reserved seat by BJP’s Thippeswamy by a margin of 289 votes.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and JD-S leader, H D Kumaraswamy, former minister Sreeramulu (BJP) and mining baron G Somasekhare Reddy of BJP were among prominent winner.

Proving astrological predictions wrong, H D Kumaraswamy won from Ramanagar, his nearest rival M Rudresha of BJP lost to him by a margin of 47,220 votes.

G Somasekhare Reddy of BJP trounced his rival and Congress candidate Anil Lad. In Bellary, former minister B Sreeramulu of BJP won by 25,716 votes beating his rival B Rama Prasad of INC.
