NEW DELHI, MARCH 22: LT Col (retd) H.I.S. Dhaliwal and Col (retd) Surinder Singh not only overcame the heat but also outplayed their rivals to emerge winners in the above 65 and below 65 years categories, respectively, in the inaugural edition of the Defence Service Officer Golf tournament recently.

H.I.S. Dhaliwal with seven handicap had a gross score of 42 and nett score of 35, over a nine hole course to beat the field of more than thirty competitor in the fray.

Maj Gen (retd) Gurbaksh Singh with a ten handicap had a score of 45 and nett score of 35 was placed second while Capt Shamsher Singh, a seven handicap golfer was third. His gross score was 43 and nett score 36.

The competition in the below 65 years was, however, over 18 holes. Col Surinder Singh chipped in excellent performance to score 77. He had a nett score of 66.

Col KS Deo with 18 handicap took the second spot. He had a gross score of 86 and nett score of 68. There was ladies section also and Binny Dhanoa took the top slot with a gross score of 97 and nett score 75.

Binny Bath and Harinder Sandhu were second and third respectively. First seven positions in the below 65 categories were given prizes. In the above 65 and ladies section, the best three were honoured.

Nirankari tourney
The Sant Nirankari Mission (Nirankari Colony) will organise the cricket tournament from April 4 to 21 at Samagam Ground (opposite Santokh Sarovar), Burari Road.

About 20 teams are expected to participate in this meet. The winners will receive Rs 10,000 and the runners-up will be richer by Rs 8,000.

Entries close with Shamser Singh on March 31.
