SANGRUR, Aug 9: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today unveiled the bust of Bhagat Singh Dhadhogal, pioneer of the Praja Mandal Movement in the area, at Dhuri, about 15 km from here.

Speaking on the occasion of Kranti Diwas, Badal paid glowing tributes to Dhadhogal and said the Praja Mandal "warriors" had fought on two fronts — against the Indian imperialism and the British Crown. He lamented that even after 50 years of independence, the youth still had to look for jobs in the government sector.

Addressing a rural gathering at Dhadhogal village, he announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh for the government school for girls and Rs 5 lakh for building a pavement on village streets. Paying their homage to the Praja Mandalists, MPs Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Satwinder Kaur announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh each for village development besides a grant of Rs 2 lakh announced by Minister of State G.S. Kanjhla.
