The Guwahati High Court has ordered deportation of 50 illegal Bangladeshi settlers and rapped the government for failing to stop infiltrators from getting their names entered in the voters’ list.
Disposing of two writ petitions last week, Justice B K Sharma said there were several common features in all the cases that were used by infiltrators to hoodwink the administration, the police and even the court.
Justice Sharma pulled up both the State and Central Governments for not responding speedily. “Neither the Centre nor the state governments can disown their foremost responsibility of defending the borders of the country, prevent any trespass and make the lives of citizens safe and secure.”
He directed them to exercise “a strong political will unmindful of political gains derived from the presence of illegal migrants and ensure that national interest prevails under all circumstances.”
