BANGALORE, Jan 9: The inhuman ways of commercially-run colleges extracting money from their students have come to light, following the official inquiry into the death of a dental college girl in the city. The inquiry has found that the authorities of the Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences put unbearable pressure for more money and thus drove the girl to suicide.
Arya Somarajan (19) had joined the college in 1997. She failed in three 1st year subjects and 20 days after the results were announced. The college management summoned her on December 31 and demanded an additional fee of Rs 90,000. Otherwise, she was told that she would be thrown out.
This pushed Arya to take the extreme step and immolate herself, the inquirysaid.
