Even as Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf comes visiting, it is still not clear whether noted singer Shubha Mudgal and her team will get to perform in Pakistan.

Mudgal was scheduled to perform in Karachi on Friday, but with the ICCR informing her yesterday that visas had not been granted, the singer is disappointed.

‘‘I thought with talks of a greater cultural exchange going on between the two countries, my singing would not be a problem,’’ Mudgal says. The ICCR, Mudgal says, had assured the artists of diplomatic passports. ‘‘It is neither a denial nor granting of visas which has put us in a strange position,’’ she says.

It was on the invitation of eminent institutes like the Indus Valley School of Arts that Mudgal, along with nine other artists, were going to Pakistan. ‘‘I had picked classical and fusion music for listeners of Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore,’’ she says.
