ReutersKuala Lumpur, September 16: The three Commonwealth Games dengue fever victims remained in hospital today but there was relief that the illness did not appear to be spreading. A fourth casualty of Kuala Lumpur’s draining tropical heat, Indian cricketer Amay Khurasia, who collapsed on the field from heat exhaustion during a match yesterday, was released from hospital.
On the fever front, the conditions of an Australian official, the wife of another official and a New Zealand team doctor were all improving even though they were still in hospital.
Concerned by the outbreak, the athletes village was repeatedly sprayed with mosquito repellent this week to kill off the mosquitos responsible.
Australian team spokesman Ian Hanson said the measure appeared to have worked as there were no new reports of the potentially fatal illness.
"The only fever we’ve got now is gold fever," Hanson said.
