NEW DELHI, July 7: Delhi has the dubious distinction of accounting for over 90 per cent cases of murder, rape, molestation and dowry deaths reported by the Union Territories (UTs) during February-April this year, according to information provided by Home Minister L K Advani in the Rajya Sabha today.The Capital accounted for as many as 1,124 of the 1,251 cognizable crimes registered in the seven UTs - Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Pondicherry - during the three months, Advani told the House in a written reply.The city reported 151 of the 175 murders in UTs, 131 of 140 attempted murders, eight of the 13 dacoities, 136 of the 143 robberies and 685 of the 766 burglaries.In crimes against women, 90 of 96 rape cases in the UTs were in Delhi, which also registered 127 of the 138 molestation cases and 33 of the 35 dowry deaths.The city also accounted for both the cases of crime against the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the UTs.Overall, taking into account both states and UTs, 3,839 murders and 1,906 cases of rape were reported in the three months.
