Three Delhi matmen for World Cadet meet
Three trainees of Chattarsal Stadium in the Capital figure in the list of eight junior matmen who have been cleared by the government to participate in the World Cadet Wrestling Championship (15-17 years) to be held in Warsaw (Poland) from tomorrow.
They are Yogeshwar Dutt (42 kg), Sushil Kumar Arya (50 kg) and Narender Singh (76 kg). They are all trainees of former Asian Games gold medallist Sat Pal. Yashveer Singh, a coach attached to the Chattarsall Stadium, is accompanying the team as one of the coaches. The other members of the junior boys team is: Krishna Kumar (54), Niranjan Singh (58), Rakesh Kumar (63), Rakesh Kumar (69), Vinod Kumar (85) and Pradip Kumar (85 plus). A 10-member girls team, appearing in an international event for the first time, also left for Warsaw. They are: Raminder Kaur (38 kg), Manju (40), Kamini (43), Sumail Khan (46), Anjali (49), Naina Rana (52), Sunita (56), Manisha (60), Kiran (65) and Sonika (70).
Sprite bowling tournament
Sprite Strike Out, a bowling tournament organised by a clear lime drink, will be held at Metro Fire from August 4 to 11 as part of the pre-qualifying round for the World Cup masters to be held in Mumbai next month. The prizes for the winners would include Kawasaki Bajaj mobike, bowling ball, Essar speed cards, sunglasses, jeans, etc. All participants will receive gift vouchers worth Rs 500. Entry fee is Rs 600.
Delhi State Chess Championship
Delhi Chess Association will organise Delhi State chess championship for boys and girls under the age groups of 12, 14 and 15 on August 6 at 4 pm at Guru Harkishan Public School (India Gate). A team will be selected during this meet to represent Delhi in the national championship to be held at Calicut. Entry fee is Rs 50. Entries close with RK Shukla, general secretary, phone 4619694.
