Delhi polls: Hamid Ansari, Rahul among early voters

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Vice President Hamid Ansari were among the early morning voters on Friday to exercise their franchise in the Delhi Assembly elections.

The Gandhi scion, accompanied by a heavy posse of security personnel, cast his ballot at Nagar Palika Secondary School in Rajesh Pilot Lane in New Delhi constituency from where Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is contesting.

There were five others in the queue when the 39-year-old Amethi MP arrived at the booth at around 8:30 a.m. and was offered to vote straight away.

However, Gandhi refused to jump the queue and cast his vote.

“I am running late,” Gandhi said when confronted by waiting media personnel and did not respond to any question.

Vice President Hamid Ansari was among the first to exercise his franchise in the Delhi Assembly elections.

Ansari cast his vote at the polling booth no. 85 at Nirman Bhavan at 8 a.m.

He was the first voter at the booth, where other high-profile voters like Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit are to also cast their ballot.

The second to vote in this booth was a couple.
