Delhi Police on Tuesday gave a clean chit to the government in the telephone-tapping allegations made by Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh. In its report to the Home Ministry, submitted by Delhi Police Commissioner K.K. Paul, it said the entire operation was done by a private party and has ruled out the involvement of any government agency.

It centres around the three persons arrested so far and also states that an attempt was made to blackmail some persons known to Singh. The report also alleged that Dr Anurag Singh, one of the person arrested, had approached private parties to sell the tapped conversation for money. But he was apparently not successful in doing so. ‘‘Delhi Police has claimed that investigations are on track and it is close to arresting another person suspected to be involved in the tapping,’’ Union Home Secretary V.K. Duggal said.
