Robbers steal cash, jewellery

  • A large quantity of cash and jewellery was reportedly stolen from a house in Dilshad Garden today morning. A group of four men reportedly forced their way into the house, bound and gagged the occupant and decamped with a large quantity of valuables. The exact amount is not yet known.
  • According to the FIR registered with the police, 40 year-old Sarla Bhai was reportedly alone at her home in Dilshad Garden. All other occupants of the house were away and even the servant had left after finishing her work. Around 10.30 a.m. she says she had gone to lock the outside door, when she saw two young men standing at the door. They told her that they were from Greater Kailash. She told them to talk to her from outside the door, but they forced their way in.

    They were followed by two others. They bound and gagged her and with one of them standing guard over her, the others proceeded to loot the house. The miscreants reportedly took away the TV and tape recorder. They alsoopened the almirahs and took away cash and jewellery. They then decamped with the valuables, after cutting the telephone cord.

    Man’s body found in rented room

  • The decomposed body of an unidentified man bearing strangulation marks was found in the Dabri area on Sunday night. The victim had reportedly been strangled with a muffler.
  • According to the police, on February 5 an unidentified couple had rented the room in which the body was found in the New Sagarpur area. On February 8, they had agreed to pay a rent of Rs 550 for it. However, on February 6 itself they left the room.

    The neighbours began to suspect something was wrong when a strong stench began to emanate from the room on Sunday evening. The door was broken open and the body was found with its hands and legs tied with a nylon cord. The victim was not the man who rented the room. The luggage belonging to the couple was also missing. The police suspect that the murder was pre-planned.

    Customs arrest man with gold biscuits, othergoods

  • The officers of the preventive unit of Customs at the Indira Gandhi International Airport apprehended a passenger, Balbir Singh, and recovered nine gold biscuits of 10 tolas each, worth rupees 4.50 lakh, besides miscellaneous goods worth rupees 2.92 lakh.
  • According to the Customs officials, Singh arrived on a Pakistan International flight, PK-290, from Dubai via Karachi.

    He reported at the red channel and declared goods worth Rs 6,500 and paid the duty. However, the Customs officials became suspicious and his baggage was re-examined. During the search three electric irons were found and gold biscuits were concealed inside a hollow space in them.

    Besides the biscuits, a number of electronic goods were also recovered from Singh. He has been arrested. During interrogation he revealed that he was bringing goods in connivance with a relative in Dubai.
