BJP demanded a probe into the alleged suicide of Puran Chand Yogi, its three-time MLA and candidate from Rajender Nagar Assembly constituency in the national capital.

“Yogi was our candidate and his victory was sure. So there is suspense over his death and we demand a probe,” senior BJP leader Shahnawas Hussain said.

Hussain said Yogi was a senior leader of the party who had won from the constituency thrice. “People get depressed when they are denied seats. What really happened we don’t know and hence there is a need for a probe,” he said.

BJP’s Delhi Chief Ministerial candidate V K Malhotra, who visited the residence of Yogi this morning, said he was shocked at the demise of the senior leader.

Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan said he knew Yogi for the past 15 years and worked together in Assembly. “The party has lost a committed worker. We are really shocked,” he said.

The saffron party’s candidate for New Delhi constituency, Vijay Jolly, also met the bereaved family members. “We lost our brother,” he said.

Yogi allegedly committed suicide in his Inderpuri residence in south-west Delhi this morning. He was found hanging by his wife Asha.
