As many as 259 cases were settled at the 43rd Telephone Adalat organised by the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). Out of a total of 282 representations, 60 pertained to service complaints, 93 to billing matters, 47 to delay in provision/ shifting/ restoration of telephones or accessories, 39 to refunds and 42 to commercial matters. The Adalat was presided over by C V Rajan, chief general manager, MTNL. The cases were considered by benches consisting of groups of senior officers from MTNL. Telephone Adalats are held once in every three months. In the 43 Adalats held so far, 28,457 cases have been settled.

Lions Clubs’ Induction Day
The Lions Clubs International celebrated its first Worldwide Induction Day on Saturday to honour its new members. More than 22,000 new members were inducted into the Lions Clubs in more than 70 countries around the world.

In India, 5,663 new members were administered the oath during the swearing- in ceremony.Speaking on the occasion, Lion Naresh Aggarwal, International Director Endorsee, said: “Lions Clubs are engaged in providing community service to the less fortunate by conducting community projects such as eye camps, running hospitals, vocational training centres, schools and colleges.”The Lions Club Delhi Greater, in association with AIIMS, organised its 160th blood donation camp at Gymkhana Club on Saturday.

It has collected 1,884 units of blood during 1997-98. According to Ramesh Guglani, they have been motivating people to exceed their target of collecting more than 2,000 units of blood during 1997-98.

Students given books,medals
Tarun Mitra Parishad, a social service organisation, distributed textbooks, notebooks and other material to 600 students from various schools in the Capital on Sunday. Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma honoured 11 meritorious students with silver medals. 100 students, including handicapped children, were awarded scholarships.
