CHANDIGARH, January 8: A number of armed forces gallantry award winners residing in the city today said that police and para-military gallantry award holders should be given due respect and recognition for the services rendered by the men in khaki.

In a statement issued here, they said it is a small gesture to honour winners of police gallantry awards alongside defence gallantry awardees during national functions. Those who expressed solidarity with the cause of police and para-military gallantry awardees include former Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Harwant Singh, Brig Sant Singh (retd), who has been decorated twice with the Maha Vir Chakra, Maj Gen R.S. Mann (retd) and Maj Gen Jaswant Singh (retd).

Meanwhile, the President’s Police Gallantry Awardees Association of India has written to the Governors of Punjab and Haryana, regretting that police gallantry awardees have been ignored by state governments during the golden jubilee celebrations of Independence.
