Giving precedence to the party over kinship, Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi today asked voters to defeat her rebellious brother and sister-in-law contesting as Independents.

‘‘They have rebelled against the party and are contesting as Independents,’’ Rabri said while campaigning in her native Gopalganj district, referring to her sister-in-law Indira, wife of her MP brother Aniruddh Prasad alias Sadhu Yadav, and also to Prabhunath, eldest of her three brothers.

‘‘Should we distribute all tickets among our family members? I had asked them not to contest but they paid no heed. Don’t vote for them,’’ she advised voters.

Rabri was particularly strident in her criticism of Indira.

‘‘Hamari bhabhi Gopalganj se khadi ho gayi hain. Jo aurat apne pati ki baat nahin sunti woh janata ki baat kya sunegi (my sister-in-law is contesting from Gopalganj. How can a woman who does not not pay heed to her husband listen to the people)?’’ she asked.

‘‘Agar wife ka saath nahin denge to jhagda ho jayega. Humko ghar se nikal degi (if I don’t side with my wife, then there will be a quarrel. She will throw me out of the house),’’ Sadhu Yadav told a TV channel when his reaction was sought.

Rabri also asked the people to vote against the eldest of her three brothers, Prabhunath, who too has entered the fray from Mirganj constituency following denial of an RJD ticket.
