The year-old death of Micky Mehta at the official residence of IPS officer Mukesh Gupta here took a new turn today when her family came out and alleged that the two were married and that police were not investigating the case.

A Bhilai-based doctor, Mehta had been found dead at the residence of Gupta, then the SP, Raipur, and now DIGP (Intelligence) at police headquarters. Police claimed she had committed suicide.

But today Mehta’s mother Shyama and brother Manik addressed a press conference alleging foul play and accusing police of hushing up the case. They said they had never even been given a copy of the postmortem report. Reacting to the charges, Gupta said that these were false and wondered why the Mehtas had suddenly come forward after one year.

At the press conference, Shyama and Manik claimed that Mehta had married Gupta and the two had been living together, showing photographs to prove this. Incidentally, the IPS officer has never denied this. The Mehtas also said the couple had a child, who is now living with Gupta.

They added that since Micky’s death, they had written letters to Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee and the National Human Rights Commission, but practically no investigation had been conducted by the police.
