PUNE, SEPT 20: From a missing grandmother, job seekers, errant builders to succession grievances, the third janata diwas organised by the district collectorate on Monday saw as many as 229 complaints.

While a total of 962 complaints have been registered since the first janata diwas was held in July, district collector Vijay Kumar Gautam claimed that a mere 38 cases were pending to be resolved. Revenue matters, however, dominated the list of grievances, he said.

The janata diwas is organised by the collectorate to redress the grievances of people. An host of officials from the police commissionerate and other departments participate in the janata diwas which is held on every third Monday of the month.

Varying complaints like a person searching for his missing grandmother since 1978 and grievances by a group of people allegedly duped by JMJ Developers also poured in today. Gautam said that 159 cases pertained to people’s grievances while 121 were related to revenue matters. Eleven cases were registered by people searching for employment while 59 were related to establishment problems, he added.

Out of the 229 cases, 19 were related to the Pune Municipal Corporation, 27 to the Pune police, six were against the MSEB, while others pertained to problems with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, PCNDTA, Public Works Department and Social Welfare department among others.

Gautam said that efforts were made to resolve the grievances within three months. However, there were various instances of parallel proceedings where revenue related matters were heard at the collectorate and the civil court. V Radha, chief executive officer, Zilla Parishad also pointed out that middlemen who bring forth the complaints on behalf of a group of people should be done away with. The janata diwas is organised so that people can directly lodge their grievances with the top officials, she said.

Gautam said that the next Janata Diwas would register the cases from 9 am and 1 pm and then conduct the hearing towards the speedy disposal. For instance there were no complaints regarding the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation and the irrigation department at the janata diwas organised today. The early registration of cases would thereby ensure the presence of such officials who were required for the day, he added.
