A day after she suffered 90 per cent burns in an alleged attack by CPI(M) cadres, Gouri Naskar, a relative of RSP minister Subhas Naskar, succumbed to her injuries at the SSKM Hospital here on Friday.

Naskar’s house in Basanti was reportedly bombed and set ablaze on Thursday, following a clash between the cadres of the two Left Front allies. Her husband, Uday Naskar, who is the minister’s nephew, also sustained burn injuries.

RSP leader and PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami said Gouri’s death re-confirms the CPI(M)’s aggression to capture power at the grassroot level.

“I cannot imagine how a minister’s house can be set ablaze. This will send a wrong signal for the political community,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating the cause of the explosion. The CPI(M) had alleged that it was triggered by some crude bombs and explosives that were stacked in the RSP minister’s residence.

“Investigations are on. Forensic experts are collecting samples from the spot. It is very difficult at the moment to pinpoint the cause of explosion and the fire,” said Praveen Kumar, SP (South 24 Parganas).

A 10-member team of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Kolkata visited Naskar’s house where the bombs were allegedly thrown. A six-member CID team, led by DSP (HQ) Niladri Chakraborty, also visited the house and questioned locals.

CPI(M) leader and Left Front chairman Biman Bose tried to defend his cadres. “Only the police and the forensic experts can reveal the truth,” he said.
