CHANDIGARH, July 16: DAV College, Sector 10, held trials to select outstanding sportspersons for sports wings seats for the 1999-2000, academic session, today. The trials were held in athletics, cricket, badminton and table tennis.
After initial screening, trials in athletics were held at Sector 7 Sports Complex. Cricket trials were conducted at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium. Table tennis and badminton trials were held at the college premises.
Trials in basketball, cycling, softball, yoga and handball will be held tomorrow.
The selection process in body building, swimming and lawn tennis will take place on July 19. Trials in judo, football, boxing and squash are slated for July 20. On July 21, trials will be conducted in volleyball, gymnastics and wrestling.
DAV-10, who have been dominating Punjab University Inter-Collegiate competitions for the past two decades, have introduced gymnastics and kho-kho events from this year.
Some prominent athletes, who took part in the trials were Lakhbir Singh (400m) Pawan Kumar (javelin throw), Mohit (100, 200m) Vikas and Sunil Yadav (800, 1500m).
Cricket tourney
Inter-School tennis ball cricket tournament for under-15 boys group will be held in August, according to a press release. Entries are restricted to recognised schools of Chandigarh, Panchkula and S.A.S. Nagar. Entry forms are available with Arun Luthra HNo-3517, Sector 46-C.
The matches will be played on knock-out basis. The tournament will be held in St Anne’s School in Sector 32.
