MUMBAI, FEB 7: An unbeaten century by Amit Dani and a fine all-round performance by Atul Ranade, enabled holders National score a 113-run win over Shivaji Park Youngsters (SPY) in the Padmakar Talim Shield (45 overs) cricket tournament, sponsored by Bank of India at the Cross maidan today.

With this win, National booked a semi-final berth. Dani’s knock of 101 was studded with two sixes and 14 fours and helped National to score 260-6 in 45 overs. Ranade, after scoring 30, went on to capture four wickets for 28 runs to restrict SPY for 147.

The other century-maker of the day was opener Hrishikesh Shende who scored 118 and helped last year’s runners-up Karnatak Sporting Association to score 256-6 against Islam Gymkhana. He was also involved in a 121 runs partnership for the first wicket with Nilesh Patwardhan (35).

In reply, Islam Gymkhana were bowled out for 164 with collegian Dennis Desai (32) and Sunil Malik (41) being the main scorers. Medium-pacer Anthony Dias (4-38) and left-arm spinner Nishit Shetty(3-29) shared the spoils.

In a close match, Worli Sports Club defeated New Hind by three wickets and one ball to spare. Opener Sandeep Kotre contributed a well-made 60.

Karnatak S A 256-6 in 45 overs (Hrishikesh Shende 118, Nilesh Patwardhan 35, Kiran Powar 34) bt Islam Gymkhana 164 all out in 45 overs (Dennis Desai 32, Sunil Malik 41; Nishit Shetty 3-29, Anthony Dias 4-38) by 92 runs.

New Hind 161 all out in 40 overs (Rajesh Sanil 58) lost to Worli S C 165-7 in 44.5 overs (Sandeep Kotre 60, Gaurang Chavan 35) by threewickets.
