Dalai Lama arrived today for the Kalchakra Puja — which starts on January 12 — at Bodh Gaya in Gaya district amid tight security, a near scandal and a protest. His arrival for the nine-day Buddhist festival was preceded by a security scare after Intelligence men found a girl with one of the aides of 17th Karmapa Urgen Trinley Dorjee who is in Gaya for the puja. Zigme Gyatso, who is posted in the security wing of the Central Tibetan government-in-exile, was found with Taiwanese girl C.Y. Hann in his monastery room. The two were released after being questioned. Dalai Lama today went to the Mahabodhi Temple and joined the 17th Karmapa in offering prayers. Later, he said: ‘‘Last time, I had to leave halfway through because of ill health, but not this time.’’ On Tibetan autonomy, he said: ‘‘I have always tried to find a solution with the Chinese government.’’This year around 20 Neo-Buddhists — Indian Buddhists who have converted from Hinduism — sat on a indefinite dharna in the complex opposite the Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee office protesting against the puja.
