
NAGPUR: The Republican Party of India (RPI) unit here has planned a morcha on July 23 to protest against anti-Dalit policies of the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (SS-BJP) alliance government. Addressing a press conference on Monday, RPI leader W K Ganar said the RPI believed that unless the alliance government was dismissed Dalits would not get justice. He alleged that innocents Dalits in Nagpur city and in semi-urban and rural areas of Vidarbha region were being harassed by police who have registered criminal cases against Dalit activists at the instance of Sena and BJP workers.
Mob ransacks corporator’s office
NAGPUR: An unruly mob damaged the office of corporator Bharat Mohadikar at Rampeth on Monday afternoon and demanded his removal from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for his alleged involvement in the Rekha Nikhare murder case. The 1,500-strong mob of residents of Chinteshwar ward, which Mohadikar represents, ransacked his office and destroyed some pieces of furniture kept inside. The mob was led by corporator Anil Dhawde, former corporator Kanta Parate, BJP leader Murlidhar Khapekar and others.
Government aid for sports schemes
MUMBAI: The State Govt has invited applications from registered institutions here, needing funds for sports schemes like development of play grounds, modern gyms and youth welfare schemes. Application forms and details of the grant can be obtained from the District Sports Officer, Mumbai Suburban c/o Government Physical Training College Campus, Akurli Road, Kandivali (East), Mumbai-101. The last date of submitting application forms is August 30.
