Haryana staff urge CM to work for due share of river watersAmbala: The Haryana Sangharsh Samiti has urged all MPs and legislators to convince Chief Minister Bansi Lal and the Prime Minister to release water in the SYL canal after completing the project in Punjab. The decision was taken at the all-party meeting held here yesterday on the initiative of HSS convener Om Prakash Malik and chaired by former MLA Ram Dass Dhamija. It was also decided that a party delegation should meet the Haryana Governor, the Prime Minister and the President to plead for the state's due share in the river waters.DCC demands probe into lathichargeAmbala: The District Congress Committee (Urban) has demanded an inquiry into the alleged lathicharge by police on the residents of Rangian Mandi. The residents were taking out a procession protesting against police inaction in arresting the persons who had indulged in vandalism in the area on April 24. A deputation led by DCC president Brij Anand met the Deputy Commissioner yesterday, and urged the ordering of inquiry. All 13 councillors attended the meeting, according to Kurali MC chief Jaswinder Singh Goldy.65 pc hike in Markfed plant turnoverChandigarh: Markfed's Vanaspati plant at Khanna has shown remarkable results during 1998-99 with its turnover going up to Rs 102 crore from last year's Rs 62 crore. Disclosing this here today, Markfed Managing Director G.S. Sandhu said the 65 per cent increase in turnover has been achieved in just one year, which is a record. He added that the utilisation capacity, which remained between 30 and 35 per cent during the past five to six years, has now increased to 81 per cent. Sandhu said the production unit has also been strengthened and changes have been made to run the plant at full capacity. During the financial year ending March 31, the plant produced 24,000 mt of different kinds of refined oils and vanaspati against last year's production of 16,011 mt.200 patients examined at Sanori campPatiala: A total of 200 patients were examined during a free medical camp being organised here at Sanori adda by the Bright Star Club. A team of expert doctors headed by Dr Varinder Singh Bajwa and Dr Avinah Kumar is supervising the camp. The camp was inaugurated by a local Congress leader Harinder Singh Bajwa. Speaking on the occasion, Bajwa lauded the role played by the Bright Star Club in serving the society through its social work. Free medicines were also given to the patients. The club will organise more such camps, added the organisers from the club.
