AURANGABAD: Divisional president of the State Government Employees’ Conference Pralhad Kulkarni has alleged that instances of attacks on the government employees have risen during the two and half-year-rule of Shiv Sena-BJP combine.

Kulkarni told media persons on Saturday that the employees were prepared to retaliate if hereafter they were beaten up by the political leaders and workers in the offices. It has been an offence under the IPC 353 to beat a government employee while he is discharging duty. However, no congnizance was forthcoming when complaints to this effect were registered with police and concerned departments, he said.

Ropeway over Lonar crater opposed

AURANGABAD: A proposal to construct a ropeway over the Lonar crater, the world’s third biggest meteorite impact crater, has run into rough weather following objections raised by environmentalists over the possibility of an imbalance in the eco system due to the ropeway. The regional manager of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Capt Surendra Surve, told PTI that the Buldhana district planning committee, in its meeting on August 30 last, had chalked out a master plan to develop the Lonar crater as a major tourist spot.

Four brothers held for murder

NASHIK: THE city police has arrested four brothers from Manmad city in connection with the murder of a youth who was allegedly stabbed to death on last Friday by the four following an old enmity between them. A report received here on Sunday said, Sanjay Ramdas Gore (23) of Godavari colony in Manmad, a criminal, was stabbed to death by Papa alias Jon Thomas and his three brothers to avenge an old enemity between Gore and them, the report added. After the murder police arrested Jon Thomas at Nashik while other three brothers Sarir Peter, Prakash Peter and Joy Peter were arrested at Manmad.

Rane opens Goan music festival

PANAJI: GOA Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane inaugurated the 17th Surashree Kesarbai Kerkar Smriti Sangeet Smaroha ’97 here on Saturday, organised by the Goa Kala Academy at Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir. Rane garlanded the bust of the exponent of Indian classical music Kesarbai Kerkar to mark the inauguration of the two-day musical evening. The Academy organises this prestigious musical festival annually in memory of the renowned and legendary musician from Goa.

Shahu Maharaj fete begins

KOLHAPUR: A huge procession (shobha yatra) was taken out in the city on Saturday to mark the beginning of a week-long Rajarshi Shahu Festival which is organised in memory of great social reformer and former ruler of Kolhapur’s princely state Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj every year. The procession was formally inaugurated by district Guardian Minister Ramdas Kadam at historical Dasara Chowk, which later marched city’s main streets before assembling at historical point Bindu Chowk. The highlight of the shobha yatra were various floats, banners, posters on the life of Shahu Maharaj, besides decorated vehicles with live scenes and folk arts presentation.
