NEW DELHI, September 8: The North district police say they have foiled a dacoity in the Malkaganj area with the arrest of six dacoits. Three country-made revolvers, a pistol, 28 live cartridges, three empty cartridges and a knife have been recovered from the accused.

The six were apprehended after the police got a tip-off about six to seven persons who had assembled near the Bara Hindu Rao Hospital to plan a dacoity at a Malkaganj bungalow. One person managed to escape from near the hospital.

The accused are in the age group of 19-23 and belong to lower middle-class families. While Shankar, Mohammad Rais and Vikas alias Vicky are school drop-outs, Jitender is a final B.A. student and Narender is a first year B.A. student. All the youths are unemployed.

In a separate case, Chandu Kumar, Roshan, Yashpal and Pappu were arrested for their alleged involvement in a Sadar Bazar burglary that took place on September 4. Investigating officials have recovered 100 stolen bags of chemical dye and cash amounting to Rs 3 lakh from them. The police say the burglars changed the lock of the Bajaj Chemicals godown, owned by Anil Bajaj. They then allegedly hired a tempo and drove out posing as the owners of the godown. Anil Bajaj lodged a report at the police station when he discovered the bags missing.

The police traced the tempo driver after finding out that he had a burn scar on his face. They later found out that the goods had been taken to Ganesh Nagar, where they arrested Chandu Kumar and Roshan. The fourth accused was arrested after their interrogation.
